Understanding Your Superbill & Submitting to Your Insurance
Healthcare is expensive. We want to make sure you have every opportunity to gain even a small percentage of your money back for the service you are seeking. When working with an out of network provider, most insurance plans will offer a percentage of reimbursement for therapy.
Maverique Therapeutic Services is currently an out of network provider. This means we do not accept insurance or are not in-network with insurance.
Here are some tips for understanding your insurance benefits, questions to ask prior to therapy, & superbill submission information.
*This does not include Medicaid plans.
Prior to Starting Therapy Services:
Call your insurance company to ask…
If you have out of network benefits for telehealth psychotherapy.
What your out-of-network deductible is currently.
Does the deductible need to be met first before getting reimbursement of services.
If you are unsure, ask if you have met your deductible.
What paperwork needs to be completed to receive out-of-network benefits.
Do you need approval from a primary care physician (PCP) for out-of-network providers?
Are mental/behavioral health services covered by your out-of-network benefits?
Ask about the codes for services being covered by out-of-network benefits
(Intake = 90791, Individual sessions = 90837, Caregiver session w/out client = 90846, Family session w/client = 90847)
If you will be reimbursed for therapy with a licensed clinical social worker.
Submitting your superbills to your insurance:
Each insurance company will have different steps to their submission process.
Call the “Members” or “Members Services” number on the back of your insurance card.
This call will take some time so please set aside 15-30 minutes, bring the questions above, & take notes.
When they give information on how to submit your Superbill; take notes on each step with the representative on the phone or walk through the process live on your member portal.
The insurance company may take the superbill via email, mail, portal, or fax. Take notes on whatever process you will use moving forward.
Example Superbill
Clients will receive an invoice at the time of payment of service. This is NOT the superbill.
The picture on the left is an example of a superbill. Clients will receive this document once per month with their previous month’s services.
The superbill will have all your therapist’s required information: license numbers, business numbers, addresses, etc. It will also include the client’s insurance information, diagnosis, and services.
